Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves the athlete attempting a maximal weight single-lift effort of a barbell loaded with weight plates. Athletes are categorised by sex, age and bodyweight, with each competitor allowed three attempts at each lift, the best lift in each discipline being added to their total. Powerlifting is all about relative strength which is the total amount of weight your body can lift, relative to your bodyweight.
The lifter with the highest total per category is the winner. In cases where two or more lifters achieve the same total, the person with the lightest bodyweight wins
